Milestone 1: Baby Dedication

Baby dedications are a way that the Family Life Department would like to come alongside you in honoring your commitment to God to raise your child to serve the Lord. The Bible says that children are a heritage and a reward from the Lord (Psalm 127:3). God has given parents the tremendous responsibility of raising their children in the ways of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4). He entrusts parents with the responsibility of establishing a foundation built upon Jesus Christ early in the lives of children. In view of this responsibility, Oak Hills Church believes baby dedications are actually family dedications. Christian parents are to do all they can to “set apart” their child to God until that child can make his or her own choice regarding a relationship with Jesus Christ. Parents make a vow to raise their child in God’s ways and not their own. Please note baby dedications are different from water baptism as we believe baptism in water is to follow salvation (after acceptance of Christ and His forgiveness of our sins) as demonstrated in the New Testament. We encourage you to have your child dedicated by the age of six months.
We would like to create an unforgettable experience for you as you make a promise to lead your child in a growing relationship with Jesus Christ at your church where you can be surrounded by friends and family. Please call the church office and speak with Jenna Kelly to schedule your baby’s dedication.
Milestone 2: Creating a Rhythm
Parents of preschoolers
Leader: Lacey Burres
We believe the best way to develop faith in a child is through the parent. No one has more potential to influence than mom or dad! Creating a Rhythm helps parents to build their child’s relationship with God though play time, bath time, cuddle time and drive time. Deuteronomy 6 tells us as parents to talk about our relationship with God as we do simple, routine activities with our children. This event will help support parents in using the everyday activities in life to shape their child’s faith.

Milestone 3: Salvation and Baptism
Parents of children ages 5-11
Leader: Pastor Jen Galley
For the child growing up in the context of a local church, a spiritual decision point is often reached between the ages of 5 and 11. We will partner with and equip parents to lead their kids toward a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Parents are encouraged to attend a seminar that teaches the biblical truth about salvation and baptism. Parents will be equipped with resources to guide their child through their first communion and to lead family devotions in their home. To make this milestone memorable and special, families may choose to include a Spiritual Birthday celebration which focuses on the child’s date of salvation. They may also participate in “Baptism Celebration” - a special baptism service designed specifically for kids. Oak Hills Church offers the “Baptism Celebration” service once a year with a kid-friendly reception following the event. Kids are encouraged to invite family, friends and everyone they know!

Milestone 4: Preparing for Adolescence
Parents of preteens
Leader: Pastor Jen Galley
It is so important to help children prepare spiritually, emotionally, and physically for adolescence. Between the ages of 10 and 12, we begin to introduce these concepts to kids as they attend church ministries and activities. We also equip parents to intentionally prepare their children to enter the teen years. Parents are encouraged to attend a seminar called “Preparing for Adolescence: Parent Edition.” This seminar teaches the basics concerning talking with your kids about relevant issues such as physical changes, identity in Christ, and sex. Parents will learn how to use James Dobson's CD series called “Preparing for Adolescence” to spark discussion during a road trip just for you and your maturing child.

Milestone 5: The Loop
Students moving into fusion inc.
Leaders: Pastors Jen Galley and Roy Lucier
Leaders: Pastors Jen Galley and Roy Lucier
The Loop is designed for 5th-6th grade students to help them transition out of Elements and into Fusion inc. This milestone begins during the spring of 5th grade and runs until the winter of 6th grade. Beginning during the spring semester of 5th grade, kids will take a deeper look at the Fundamental Truths of the Assemblies of God, develop spiritual disciplines and discover their spiritual gifts. Over the summer, they will have the opportunity to plan and implement a community outreach event as a team. When they enter Fusion inc. as a 6th grader, they will be a part of a Wednesday night class that deals with topics to equip them to navigate life in Jr. High.
Milestone 6: Purity for Life
Parents of middle school students
Leader: Pastor Roy Lucier
We will partner with you by providing the tools to talk to your student about what purity for life means and create a “purity talk” with your child. You will receive a booklet including Bible verses and God’s plan for purity in the life of your child. The booklet will also include a way to create a one-on-one experience to talk with your child about purity and ideas for an object symbolizing your child’s purity.

Milestone 7: Know, Own, Lead
Senior high school students and parents for meeting
Leader: Pastor Roy Lucier
In this milestone, we help students build upon earlier goals. They will move from learning to knowing, experiencing to owning, and serving to leading. By the time a student leaves high school they will have the knowledge on how to have a self-sustaining, ever challenging relationship with God. This is our ultimate goal - not to perfect their lives, but to provide a solid foundation that can prove to be the ultimate launching pad for them to truly own their faith in their adult life.

We believe blessings are important as noted in the Bible (Genesis 48:15 and Hebrews 11:20). Parents will be given the opportunity to write a blessing for their child during their high school graduation season.
